ALLEN PARK — The 2009-10 budget for 24th District Court recently was approved by the Allen Park and Melvindale city councils.
The court serves both cities and is based in Allen Park.
The court’s total revenue and expenditures for the fiscal year that starts July 1 are about $3.48 million. Total expenditures and revenue for this fiscal year were about $3.17 million.
About two-thirds of expenses and revenues involve Allen Park and about one-third involve Melvindale. Allen Park’s total is about $2.08 million and Melvindale’s is about $1.04 million.
Other revenue comes from the probation department and investment interest.
The surplus is expected to be about $100,000; this fiscal year, it was about $151,000. Surplus money is returned to the cities. The court does not maintain a fund balance.
The court receives a monthly check from each city for operational expenses, Court Administrator Dawn Grubbs said. In return, the court reimburses the cities with monthly checks from revenue and also reimburses several state agencies for mandatory fees.
The court’s revenue exceeds the operating expenses, she said.
Last year, Allen Park budgeted for about $500,000 excess in revenue in fines and forfeitures from the court and Melvindale budgeted for about $100,000.
Slight increases are expected in personal services, employee benefits and operating expenses, while a decrease is expected in capital outlay.
Personal services went up by $112,134; employee benefits, by $112,134; and operating expenses, by $46,350.
Capital outlay is expected to be $4,242 less than this fiscal year.
