SOFTBALL: The 2009 Division 1 All-Downriver team

Here is the 2009 News-Herald All-Downriver Division 1 Softball Team:

Amber Gauthier, Woodhaven: She hit .320 with a team-best 17 RBIs this season for the Warriors.

Kayla Goodwin, Allen Park: The Jags’ sophomore ace led Allen Park to a district title. She went 17-11 with a 2.61 ERA and 134 strikeouts with 57 walks.

Heather Kennedy, Lincoln Park: Kennedy hit .406 and drove in 20 runs from the leadoff spot for the Railsplitters, who stayed in the hunt for the Mega White title until the season’s final week.

Kalyn Labut, Anderson: The Titans standout hit .366 with 34 hits, four doubles and eight RBIs.

Veronica Neizgoda, Allen Park: The junior all-Mega Red first base/outfielder hit .329 with 26 hits, 17 runs and a team-leading 22 RBIs in her third year of varsity play.

Chelsea Pomaville, Anderson: The Titans junior outfielder was all-district and region while hitting .363 with 33 hits. She also added eight RBIs and 14 put-outs.

Beonka Pope, Kennedy: The junior catcher/shortstop led the team with a .328 average and had five doubles, two triples and one home run. She also had eight stolen bases.

Dana Prieur, Allen Park: The Jaguars’ steady senior shortstop/outfielder was all-district and region. From the leadoff spot, she hit .380 with 35 hits, 28 runs and four RBIs.

Courtney Thorington, Roosevelt: Thorington led the Bears in hitting (.370) and RBIs (28) this spring and helped them reach the championship game of a Division 1 district.
