Allen Park — Behind strong net play from Kayla Kostich, Allen Park Cabrini recorded victories in both matches of its Catholic League volleyball doubleheader Monday night, defeating Detroit Urban Lutheran, 25-4, 25-5, 25-9, and Bloomfield Hills Academy of Sacred Heart, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16.
Kostich, a senior middle hitter, served nine aces against Urban Lutheran and added six more, along with 13 kills, against Sacred Heart.
“She’s 6-foot and has got great leaping ability,” Cabrini coach Cheryl Szczodrowski said of Kostich, who’s committed to play softball at Eastern Michigan University. “She’s a catcher in softball, so she definitely has the arm strength to be a middle hitter.”
Emily Makowski was 18-for-19 from the service line with 10 aces during the match against Urban Lutheran, and Torey Shea had 13 kills against Sacred Heart.
“Against Sacred Heart, we came out on fire,” Szczodrowski said. “We’ve been struggling with services, but we came out strong tonight, and it allowed us to get into our hitting game.”
Cabrini is 27-23, 9-0 in the Catholic League A West.
