Darius Robinson played a large part in Anderson’s 35-6 win over Allen Park.

Up 14-0 at halftime at Allen Park Friday night, Anderson went for the jugular.

The Titans struck for back-to-back third-quarter touchdowns and spoiled the Jaguars’ homecoming, 35-6.

Anderson tailbacks Darius Robinson and Michael Currie led the way. The duo combined for 183 yards of their team’s 249 total. Robinson had 99 yards and Currie added 84.

“Linemen were opening up big holes all night,” Robinson said. “I felt good. The holes were really big and everyone was playing focused.”

He scored the first three touchdowns of the night, scoring the third on the Titans’ first drive of the third quarter.

They marched 73 yards, helped by a 30-yard Robinson scamper.

He ran in the touchdown from four yards out to make it 20-0 and the second half Anderson avalanche was on.

“We knew that first drive in the third quarter was important,” Titans Coach Derek McLaughlin said. “We wanted to set the tone for the second half and play a complete game.”

The Titans’ next drive got a boost from Currie, who ripped off a 40-yard scamper. Anderson cashed in on a 28-yard Chris Ye-to-Brandon Riney touchdown.

Erich Richter kicked the second of his three successful extra points to make it 28-0.

Anderson (4-1 Downriver League) finished the scoring with Devon Bronson short run.

For Allen Park (3-2), it was the second straight loss to Anderson and second straight defeat.

Jaguars Coach Tom Hoover credited the Anderson running game and defense, the latter of which held Allen Park to a little more than 100 yards rushing.

“They’re playing like they did last year,” Hoover said. “They had a slow start this season, but they’re getting better.

“(McLaughlin)’s got a lot to work with over there.”

Linebacker Kyle Kokus had nine tackles and led an Anderson defense that forced a fumble and got an interception from Jacob Mullinax.

Anderson opened the scoring in the first quarter with Robinson 3-yard touchdown run.

Midway through the second, Robinson kick-started Anderson with a 31-yard run, then finished the drive with a 17-yard scoring dash.

The Titans got the two-point conversion on a pass from Ye to Riney.

Allen Park broke the shutout with an 11-yard Tommy Roberge touchdown run on the game’s final play.

Running back Adam Stromberg led the Jaguars with 72 yards on 13 carries.

Robinson said the win over Allen Park was a key one, keeping the Titans tied for second place in the Downriver League and a game behind Melvindale.

“It’s big. There’s a good chance we can come back (in the league),” he said. “It was their homecoming game, it’s a rivalry game and they had been beating us the past few years.

“We just stuck it to them.”
