The Jaguars’ 17th-place finish included a bevy of highlights led by three relays, all of which scored.
“Of the nine qualifiers, we had seven come back after preliminaries to swim the second day and four of them were individuals,” Coach Whitney Baker said. “I hoped we would do a little better – but I never thought we’d have as many qualifiers come back the second day.”
The 200 medley relay of Emily Mitchell, Erin Bender, Jenny Wilson and Meghan Pearson placed 14th (1:54.34).
In the 200 individual medley, Bender placed 11th (2:13.45) and Wilson was 13th (2:15.53).
The Jaguars scored big in the 100 butterfly, with Pearson placing ninth (58.97) and Wilson 14th (1:00.4).
“In the IM, Bender went from a 2:18 at leagues to swimming 2:13, that was astounding,” Baker said. “Pearson swam two events last year and finished 17th in both of them. This year she was ninth (in the fly), but she was seeded 28 of 30 going in.
“That’s a big deal.”
Allen Park placed 16th in the 200 freestyle relay with Mitchell, Bender, Haley DeFeyter and Lauren Marosi (1:44.04).
In the 400 freestyle relay Pearson, DeFeyter, Wilson and Marosi placed 16th (3:45.75).
“Everyone did a really great job,” Baker said.
