The News Herald: Breaking news coverage for Southgate, MI.
It was the usual cast of Downriver characters that earned spots in the MHSAA competitive cheerleading regionals by performing well last weekend at state district tournaments.
Anderson advanced in Division 1, defending champ Carlson and archrival Allen Park advanced in Division 2 and Grosse Ile and Flat Rock advanced in Division 3.
Roosevelt, which won a division at this year’s News-Herald Invitational, came close to qualifying, but missed the final spot in the Wayne Memorial district by less than five points.
Anderson won that title with a score of 788.4512.
In the Division 2 district hosted by Carleton Airport, Carlson was the class of the field, winning each round and scoring 790.4136, the highest of any Downriver qualifier.
Dearborn Divine Child was second, despite an eight-point penalty, with a score of 740.5200 and Allen Park was third at 740.4360.
