Brianna Surma homered in the eighth inning Tuesday to lift Allen Park Cabrini softball to a 5-4 victory over Flat Rock.
Cabrini (1-0) trailed, 4-0, after the first inning and, 4-2, in the seventh before forcing an extra inning.
“It’s part of the process for mental toughness,” Cabrini coach Debbie Norman said of the comeback.

Surma’s late home run, a line drive to right field, came with two outs. She went 2-for-3.
There are eight returning players on Cabrini, which lost to Flat Rock in extra innings in the district playoffs last year.
“It was more of a program win (Tuesday),” Norman said, “from the standpoint of carrying on the tradition that we have here at Cabrini.”
Flat Rock is 1-1.
