Global Renaissance Entertainment in talks with Allen Park to be part of film complex – Detroit News and Information – Crain’s Detroit Business.

A film company said it is negotiating with the city of Allen Park to be part of the city-owned film complex that also includes Unity Studios.

Global Renaissance Entertainment Group Inc. is negotiating with the city to purchase property and build a film studio, said Allison Ritter, senior account executive with the Atlanta-based public relations firm, Hope Beckham, representing the film group.

She said a closing could occur as early as next week.

A message was left for Allen Park Mayor Gary Burtka was not returned Wednesday afternoon.

Global Renaissance is part of the operations run by Arthur Wylie, which moved its headquarters to Allen Park earlier this year.

The company has offices in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Charlotte, according to a press release. Its website lists multiple movie projects currently in production.

It is also affiliated with the Wylie Institute for the Study of Entrepreneurship, a film and new media division is located on the campus of Stautzenberger Institute, also in Allen Park on the city-owned film complex.

Among producers currently in discussions with Wylie are Mark Ordesky, executive producer of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Scott Mednick, executive producer of “300” and “Superman Returns.”

“The movie industry is blossoming in Michigan, and we are finalizing our location for a major studio complex to meet the needs of our productions,” said Wylie in a press release. “We have committed our future to movie-making in the Detroit area.”

Unity Studios has been in the news for the last two weeks after it was involved in a spat with the city over terms of the lease for the studio.

After the city released a statement saying the company did not pay its rent, the two groups came to a resolution on the terms of the lease and the amount of control Unity has in decision-making.
