Karyn McCarty realized there was only so much she could do in the pitchers circle.
Eventually, McCarty took things into her own hands with the bat.
McCarty’s towering home run sent Clinton center fielder Kelcey Baker scrambling, but Baker pushed over the fence and it was too late. McCarty had a homer in the top of the seventh, providing the game’s only run as Allen Park Cabrini defeated Clinton 1-0.
Cabrini (34-1) will face the winner of the Olivet-Gladstone game at 3 p.m. Saturday here at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. Olivet held a 2-0 lead on Gladstone through six innings as this was published.
McCarty struck out six and allowed four hits, overshadowing a solid pitching effort from Clinton’s Tierney Nelson, who tossed a one-hitter and allowed only McCarty’s home run.
Nelson struck out nine and allowed only two runners past first base.
