Councilman Rourke Questions Payments

The News Herald: Breaking news coverage for Southgate, MI.

Councilman Kevin Rourke said he wants answers about payments to fund the Allen Park Studio Center and an apparent cash-flow issue the city is facing.

On July 13, the City Council approved paying nearly $444,000 to Southfield-based Real Estate Development and Investment Co., also known as REDICO. However, the city had $232,000 in available money, and city officials said the $211,000 shortfall could not be paid at the time through bond money.

Rourke was not at that meeting.

At the July 27 council meeting, he raised concerns about the approval, and requested a meeting with REDICO.

ā€œI’m at the point now … I need some questions answered about where that cash flow is,ā€ Rourke said.
